Anima is a particle simulation playground where thousands of tiny agents (boids, "bird-oid objects") follow simple rules, and produce something surprisingly beautiful. Tune the behaviour, set it in motion, or just watch.

🐦 How It Works

  • Pick a Preset: Start from a curated library of behaviours, each with its own personality.
  • Interact: Move your cursor across the canvas to attract, repel, or scatter the swarm in real time.
  • Tweak & Save: Dial in your own combination of rules and save it as a custom preset.

🎛️ Presets
A library of built-in presets across several categories:

  • Basics: Boids - the classic emergent flocking algorithm.
  • Flocking: Murmuration, Shoal - tightly coordinated collective movement.
  • Flow: Jets, Aurora, Waterfall - loose, atmospheric drifts.
  • Forces: Catherine Wheel, Push and Pull, Orbit - particles shaped by invisible fields.

🖱️ Live Interaction

  • Mouse force applies attraction or repulsion wherever you click your mouse
  • Toggle force visibility to see the fields shaping the swarm.

🌀 LFOs (Animated Parameters)
Assign slow oscillators to parameters including force location and strength to evolve the simulation over time without you touching a thing.

🌱 Particle Lifecycle
Control how particles are born and die: spawn zones, respawn modes, edge behaviour (wrap, kill, bounce), and particle lifespan all shape the behaviour of the simulation.

🎨 Appearance

  • Light and dark themes with a customisable accent colour.
  • HUD blur and opacity controls so the interface disappears into the background.
  • Letterbox mode for a square, focused canvas.
